Full Panarea budget guide →Can you visit Panarea as a day trip?
Yes, it is possible to visit Panarea as a day trip using Liberty Lines hydrofoils, which offer morning departures from Milazzo with evening returns. However, Panarea is best enjoyed with at least one or two nights: the sunset over the islets, aperitivo at Bridge Bar, and the quiet of the island in the early morning are experiences that can't be rushed.
Are there shops and supermarkets in Panarea?
Panarea has a small grocery store near the port where you can find basic necessities, fresh fruit and local products. Don't expect large supermarkets: the selection is limited and prices are higher than on the mainland. For major shopping it's better to stock up in Milazzo before departing. The island also has boutiques selling resort clothing, Aeolian ceramics and souvenirs.
Shopping guide for Panarea →What should I pack for Panarea?
Bring comfortable shoes for walking on cobblestone paths and hiking trails, snorkeling gear if you have it, high-SPF sunscreen (the sun reflected off the sea is intense), an ID for check-in, and some cash as backup. Keep luggage manageable — there are no cars and everything is done on foot or by golf cart.
Is Panarea suitable for children?
Panarea is a car-free island, which makes it safe and peaceful for children. Beaches like La Caletta near the port are easily walkable and family-friendly. Cala Junco requires a 20–25 minute walk on a scenic path. Kids love boat trips to the volcanic islets. Keep in mind the island is small and services are more limited compared to larger, more tourist-oriented destinations.
